Jennie D. Richards, age 86, passed away February 15, 2013 in Lansing, Michigan. Jennie was a loving wife of Bill Richards, Jr.; devoted mother of Polly, Lynn (Tom) Quinn, Chris (Martha), Jill, Jay (Kristin), and Jeff; grandmother of Leslie, Melissa, Kate, Jacob, Alec, and Sammy; great grandmother of Will, Aulora, and Haley. Jennie was surrounded by a wonderful extended family, including many nieces, nephews, dear friends and neighbors. She was preceded in death by her parents Clifford and Marjorie, sister Doris, and grandson Jonathan.
Jennie grew up in Yale, MI. where she met husband Bill. Both went to MSU and they married in 1948. Their love and partnership was a blessing evident to all. She taught in Lansing prior to raising a family; and when nearly all the kids had flown the roost, she became a teacher's aid at the Intermediate School District in St. Johns. Nurturing a family came naturally to her as she always offered a sense of well being! She was a long-time member of the First Congregational Church of St. Johns where she was active in all corners of the church and most recently the Baby Pantry and the Friendly Service Committee. All who made their way into their home on Lindy Lane were welcomed and delighted by the beauty of her garden, nourished at the kitchen table, and sent away with bushels of love.
A Memorial Service will be 1 PM Saturday, March 23, 2013 at the First Congregational Church of St. Johns, 100 Maple St. in St. Johns. Her family will receive friends from 11 - 12:50 just prior to the service. There will also be a luncheon following the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Congregational Church of St. Johns or to a charity of the donor's choice.
