Jerald Ray (Jerry) McClintic, age 68, of St. Louis, MI passed away on June 30, 2011 at Schnepp Health Care Center after a lifelong battle with hemochromatosis.
Jerry was born May 21, 1943, in Alma, Michigan to Glen Jerald and Dorothy (Nartker) McClintic. He lived in the St. Louis area most of his life and graduated from St. Louis High School in 1961.
Jerry was preceded in death by his father, Glen McClintic and by his stepson, Michael Mayville. He is survived by Marilyn McClintic of St. Louis; son Scott (Kai) McClintic of Las Vegas, NV; daughter Lynne (Robert) Wyre of Chaska, MN; stepson Tom (Lezlie) Mayville of Carson City, NV; stepson David Mayville of St. Louis, MI. He is also survived by grandchildren, Elizabeth Wyre, Andrew Wyre and Daniel Wyre, all of Chaska, MN, Cameron Mayville of Carson City, NV and Jeramiah (Jessica) Mayville of Canadian Lakes, MI. Jerry is also survived by his mother Dorothy Curtis and brothers Richard McClintic and Frank (Jill) McClintic, all of St. Louis, MI; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Jerry especially enjoyed working in the bowling and golf business, notably for the Luneack family-first at Gratiot Lanes and then Bear Truss.
Jerry will be remembered by all as an athlete in his younger days and an avid sports fan until the very end. He wowed the crowds with his pitching prowess in the game of fast pitch softball. He loved the Detroit Tigers and never missed a televised game. He also loved the game of golf which he shared and passed along to his children. He also had a love for crossword puzzles.
Jerry played Pony League when he was just 12 yrs old. At age 14, he caught the eye of a very good American Legion team which included Jim Northrup, the former Detroit Tiger. Jerry was brought up to catch for this team. That same year, he began his fast pitch softball career and pitched the first of his many state tournament games. He was often picked up by other teams to pitch in the state tournaments and won at least one state championship. His fondest memories were playing with the Meteor Bar team who were runners up State Champs, as well as playing with The McClintic Clan, a team comprised mostly of McClintic family members.
Although blinded in one eye at the age of 16, his athletic abilities allowed him to become a prolific basketball scorer, bowler and a very fine golfer. His knowledge of sports made him the go-to guy for information or tips on how to improve one's game.
"Dad (Jerry) made his final run around the bases in his true form. He will be remembered for his quiet, and unassuming demeanorAAA½.the unsung hero of the team." He will be greatly missed.
We will be honoring his wishes for cremation and for no memorial service, as he would prefer a gathering and celebration of his life at the CSA Hall on Sunday, July 24th at 2:00 PM.
