Jerrine Doris Mead age 86, of Elsie, MI, passed away Tuesday, October 16, 2018, at her home surrounded by her family.
Funeral Services will be held at Duplain Church of Christ, St. Johns, MI, on Monday, October 22, 2018, at 11:00 A.M., with Mr. Justin Shepard officiating. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery, Elsie, MI. Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 21, 2018 from 2-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes Elsie, MI.
Jerrine was born in Ovid, MI on July 23, 1932, the daughter of Floyd Eugene and Neva Leora (Doyen) Betzer. She graduated from Ovid High School with the class of 1950. During her school years, Jerrine was active in Girl Scouts and the marching band.
Jerrine married Wayne Mead on August 12, 1950 at United Church of Ovid. Their marriage was blessed with the birth of 2 daughters. They spent their entire married life on the Centennial farm. She and Wayne were members of Duplain Church of Christ. Wayne preceded her in death in 1996 after 46 years of marriage after which she moved to town.
In 1958, Jerrine became an Avon Representative in the rural areas of Eureka, Ovid, Elsie, St. Johns, and Carland. Each year she earned the President's Club and Honors Society Awards. After 53 1/2 years, she retired. She also enjoyed sewing, quilting, handiwork, reading and traveling.
Jerrine had a passion for genealogy that was inspired by the personal journals of her great-great-grandfather Rev. R.W. McEwing a circuit rider preacher, and his brother Rev. Albert McEwing. She was also a member of the Elsie Historical Society, Ovid Historical Society, Clinton County Genealogy Society, Shiawassee County Genealogy Society, former West Elsie Extension Club, and Ovid Library Club.
Jerrine is survived by daughter Karla (John) Schultz of Corunna, daughter Laurie (Clay Swagart) Mead of Elsie, 2 grandchildren: Heather Gruber, and Phillip (Jenniffer) Gruber; and 4 great grandchildren: Tatum, Alissa, Kayla, and Payton. Jerrine was preceded in death by her grandparents Elmer and Cora Doyen, parents Floyd and Neva Betzer, and husband Wayne.
