Joan Darlene Lowery, age 72, of Blanchard, MI went to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 8th, 2010 surrounded by family at her home.
Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Ithaca Chapel on Thursday, August 12th at 11:00 A.M. Grandson Pastor Justin Bupp and Pastor George Showers will officiate. Burial will take place at North Star Cemetery in North Star, MI. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 6-8 PM and on Wednesday, August 11, 2010 from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the funeral home.
Joan was born in North Star Twp., Michigan on March 18, 1938, the daughter of Marshall and Sylvia (Eichorn) DeVuyst. She attended Sowers Country School through the eighth grade, and graduated from Ithaca High School in 1956. Joan worked at Gratiot County Courthouse for many years, and later retired from the Gratiot County Road Commission. She served as the North Star Twp. Treasurer for several years, and was an election and library board member in Isabella County.
She married David Orville Lowery on June 13, 1975 in Ithaca, MI. She was a member of the Women's Auxillary of the St. Louis Moose Lodge. Joan enjoyed camping, traveling, sewing, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband David Lowery of Blanchard, MI; children Steven and Jeri Lynn Van De Perre of Beulah, MI; Mark Van De Perre of Beulah, MI; Kevin and Kim Van De Perre of Blanchard, MI; Marcia and Craig Wright of Allegan, MI; Steve Lowery and Rose Williams of Riverdale, MI; Bruce Lowery of Alma, MI; Brenda and Joe Pung of Mt.Pleasant, MI; Kelly and Karen Lowery of Ithaca, MI; brother William and Linda DeVuyst of Ithaca, MI; Nephew Michael and Dori DeVuyst of Flushing, MI; Belgium exchange student Olivier Honnay currently of Oklahoma; 17 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.
