Joan Lavina Poppiti, age 77, of Owosso, MI passed away Tuesday, May 5, 2009 at Shiawassee County Medical Care Facility, Corunna, MI.

Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Jennings-Lyons Chapel Owosso, MI on Saturday, May 9, 2009 at 11:00 A.M., Deacon Gary Edington will officiate, and burial will take place at St. Paul Cemetery Owosso, MI. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 7, 2009 from 6-8 PM. and on Friday, May 8, 2009 from 2-4 & 6-8 PM. at Smith Family Funeral Homes Jennings-Lyons Chapel Owosso, MI.

Joan was born in Charlevoix, Michigan on March 21, 1932, the daughter of Carl and Norma (Smith) Holland. She married Silvestro Poppiti on March 8, 1950 in North Carolina. He passed away on January 8, 1993. Joan lived in Owosso from 1975-1991, moving to Las Vegas and returning to Owosso in 1993. Joan worked for Toledo Commutator for 4 years. She loved to take pictures and organize them in albums. Her grandchildren were a very important part of her life. Walking was one of Joan's favorite pastimes.

She is survived by her 7 sons; Nicholas and Therese Poppiti of Novi, MI, Carl and Crystal Poppiti of Victorville, CA, Sylvester and Cindy Poppiti of Ithaca, MI, Michael Poppiti of Owosso, MI, Martin Poppiti of Tulsa, OK, Steven Poppiti of Owosso, MI, Kenneth Poppiti & Andrea Lennon of Owasso, OK, grandchildren; Kristina and Thomas Young, Elaine and Adam Freeman, Carrie Poppiti, Amanda Poppiti, Stephanie and Matt, Michael Poppiti, Erica Meredith, Kayla Poppiti, Anthony Poppiti, and Brittany Marble and 6 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
