Joe Micka

Joe M. Micka, age 94, of Elsie, MI died Sunday, February 1, 2009 at Carson City Hospital, Carson City, Michigan.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church Ovid, Michigan on Thursday, February 5, 2009 at 10:00 A.M., Rev. Fr. Raymond Urbanek will officiate. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery, Elsie, Michigan. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 4, 2009 from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes Elsie Chapel. Rosary will be prayed on Wednesday evening at 5:30 P.M. at the funeral home.

Joe was born in Elsie, Michigan on July 26, 1914, the son of Joe and Marie (Horak) Micka. He resided all of his life in the Elsie area. Joe married Hilda Hrncharik on August 16, 1941 in Bannister, Michigan, Hilda predeceased him on February 22, 2008. He was a life long farmer and was a carpenter for Kaufman Construction for many years. Joe was also a member of the ZCBJ Lodge, #225 Bannister, Michigan and was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church Ovid, Michigan.

He is survived by 2 sons; Thomas Micka of Jerome, Michigan, Raymond and Barbara Micka of Ypsilanti, Michigan, 1 daughter Betty Jane Micka and Jeff Conway of Loveland, Colorado, daughter-in-law Candis Micka of Ovid, Michigan, 10 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and many nieces & nephews. He is also survived by sisters & brothers in law, John & Evelyn Hrncharik, Rose & Robert Marks, and Agnes Hrncharik. He was predeceased by his parents, wife Hilda, 4 sons; James, Fred, Jerry & Joseph, 1 grandson John, 1 great grandson Jacob, and 1 brother Tony.
