Joe Z. Sanchez, age 81, of Alma, MI passed away Saturday, April 18, 2015 at the University of Michigan Health Systems, Ann Arbor, MI.
Funeral Services will be held at First Church of God Alma, MI on Thursday, April 23, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Steve Wimmer officiating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday April 22, 2015 from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Louis, MI.
Joe was born in Strawn, Texas on March 19, 1934, the son of Lorenzo O. and Maria (Zammaripa) Sanchez. He attended St. Louis High School and graduated with the class of 1954. Joe married Sarit Ramirez on September 5, 1987 at the First Church of God, Alma, MI.
Joe had a green thumb for growing plants and he loved gardening, flowers, landscaping his yard and the outdoors. He enjoyed going to arts and craft shows. Joe and Sarit walked the Mackinaw Bridge for 18 years over Labor Day Weekend. He enjoyed family gatherings and the Annual Sanchez Family Reunion at the farm where he grew up. He loved spending time with his wife and best friend. He was a wonderful husband; a quiet and gentle soul. He was very much loved and will be missed. Joe worked at Michigan Chemical in the receiving department after graduating from high school from 1954-1979. He worked for one of his neighbor & friend from 1979-1987. From there he went on to work at the Alma Airport, from 1987 until his retirement in 1999. Joe served his country in the United States Army, from July of 1955 thru April of 1957; he served in Korea for one year, from 1956-1957. He was a member of the First Church of God, Alma, MI.
He will be greatly missed by his wife Sarit Sanchez of Alma, MI, 4 sisters; Mary Brand of St. Louis, MI, Esther Hyde of St. Louis, MI, Lorenza Worden of Remus, MI, Dolores Lindsey of Mohave Valley, AZ, and 1 brother Sal and Marilyn Sanchez of St. Louis, MI. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and baby brother Frank.
