Joe Vostrizansky, age 82, of Owosso, MI died Monday, January 11, 2010 at Memorial Healthcare Center, Owosso, MI.
Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel, Elsie, MI on Thursday, January 14, 2010 at 12:00 Noon, Rev. Fr. John Fain will officiate. Burial will take place at Ford Cemetery, Gratiot County, MI. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 13, 2010 from 2-8 P.M. and Thursday, January 14, 2010 from 10:00 A.M. until time of the service at Smith Family Funeral Homes Elsie Chapel Elsie, MI.
Joe was born in Bannister, Michigan on February 7, 1927, the son of James and Frances (Kasik) Vostrizansky. He attended Bannister & Elsie Schools. Joe married Stefina Luznak on November 2, 1946 at St. Cyril's Rectory in Bannister, Michigan. Stefina died January 22, 2003.
Joe was an active farmer for 40 years. He also worked at Midland Ross in Owosso for over 20 years and was a member of the UAW Local 836. Joe resided on his family farm outside of Bannister for 72 years before moving to Owosso Township in 1999. Joe enjoyed sports as the catcher and second basemen, and later became the manager for the Bannister Eagles, the men's recreational team. He was an avid euchre & pinochle card player, and enjoyed bowling, as well as volunteered to coach little league baseball, the Bannister Indians. He enjoyed listening to the Detroit Tigers, and the Detroit Red Wings. Joe was an avid sportsman, fishing at Hubbard Lake, hunting, and ice fishing on the Maple River. He especially enjoyed Czech Polkas.
He is survived by his daughter Susan and Joseph Oginsky of Owosso, MI, 3 sons; Joseph and Terise Vostrizansky of DeWitt, MI, David Vos and Scott Reiter of Washington, DC, Mark and Christy Vostrizansky of DeWitt, MI, grandchildren; Michael, Natasha, Danielle, Joseph, Gregory, Anna, Maria, and Ella. He was predeceased by his parents, wife, 2 brothers; Frank & Jerry, and 1 sister Jenny Teets.
Memorials may be made to WOES Polka Palace at Ovid-Elsie High School. The family would like to thank the Owosso Memorial Healthcare Long Term Care Unit and the Oliver Woods Retirement Community for the joy and compassionate care provided to their father.
