Johanna "Joanne" Sophie Kristin, age 81, of Bannister, Michigan passed away Friday, January 28, 2011 at her home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Cyril's Catholic Church Bannister, Michigan on Tuesday, February 1, 2011 at 10:00 A.M., Rev. Fr. Wolfgang Streichardt will officiate. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery, Elsie, Michigan.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 30, 2011 from 5-8 P.M. and on Monday, January 31, 2011 from 2-8 P.M. with family present 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes Elsie Chapel. Rosary will be prayed at 7 P.M. Monday at the funeral home.
Joanne was born in Detroit, Michigan on August 17, 1929, the daughter of Joseph and Sophie Marie (Pontack) Stambersky. She graduated from Detroit Southeastern High School with the class of 1947. On September 25, 1948 she married Ben Kristin at St. Cyril's Catholic Church. Ben died January 29, 1984. Joanne resided most of her life in the Bannister area. She was the Postmaster in Bannister from 1968 to 1993. Joanne enjoyed playing cards, bingo, bowling, and she enjoyed spending time at Higgins Lake at their cottage. She was a member of St. Cyril's Catholic Church Bannister, Michigan. She was a member of the Altar Society at St. Cyril's and she taught Religious Education at the church. She was also a member of the VFW Auxiliary.
She is survived by 2 daughters; Karen and Robin Wooley of Elsie, MI, Denise and Michael Denovich of Bannister, MI, 1 son Kurt and Jayme Kristin of St. Louis, MI, 6 grandchildren; Nicole and Stephen Halfmann, Eric Wooley, Kyle Kristin, Joshua and Jill Harnick, Casey Kristin, Clay Kristin, and 3 great grandchildren; Hunter Harnick, Ryan Halfmann, and Sarah Halfmann. She was predeceased by her parents, husband, and 2 brothers; Gerald and David Stambersky.
