John Bernath

John Martin Bernath, age 75, of Elsie, MI passed away Sunday, December 3, 2017 at Hospice House of Shiawassee County, Owosso, MI.

A Memorial Service will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Elsie, MI, on Friday, December 8, 2017 at 4:00 P.M., with Mr. Thomas Bradley officiating.  Visitation will be held on Friday, December 8, 2017 from 2-4 P.M. at the funeral home.  Burial will be at a later date at the Riverside Cemetery, Elsie, MI.

John was born in Lansing, MI on June 24, 1942 the son Andro and Mary (Kusnier) Bernath.  John married Marilyn Kaye (Moore) Bernath on July 31, 1965 at St. Cyril’s Catholic Church, Bannister, MI.  He resided all of his life in the Elsie area.

John was a talented mechanic and could fix anything.  He was an avid sportsman and his dogs were always with him.  He loved flying RC airplanes and his ultralite plane.

John is survived by his wife Marilyn, daughter Kimberly (Jerry) Kimball of Eagle, MI, son Bruce (Cristina) Bernath of Ovid, MI, 4 grandchildren: Melanie (Luke) Hemingway, Stephanie (Josh) Relyea, Gabrielle Bernath, and Danielle Bernath; 10 great grandchildren: Ethan, Jacob, Carter, Owen, Joy, Tiffany, Christian, Roman, Gideon, and one on the way.  He is also survived by his sister Helen Slowinski, and brother Martin Bernath.  John was preceded in death by his parents, brother Thomas, and infant brother Albert.
