John Raymond Harrier, age 73, of Alma, MI, peacefully passed away Tuesday, September 21, 2021, at his home surrounded by his family.
Visitation will be held 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. on Saturday, September 25, 2021 at Smith Family Funeral Homes Ithaca, MI. A Celebration of John's life with military honors will be held at Oasis Community Church, 1250 E. Washington Rd., Ithaca, MI, at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, October 16, 2021. A livestream of the service will be available on the Smith Family Funeral Homes Facebook page.
John was born in Alma, Michigan on July 20, 1948, the son of Ernest and Marie (Fox) Harrier. He graduated from St. Louis High School with the class of 1966. John proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam Era.
On November 26, 1977, John married Erin Elizabeth Palmer at the Alma United Methodist Church. They were blessed with 43 years of marriage.
John was an avid Michigan sports fan and religiously watched his teams. He was a talented craftsman and enjoyed the process of trouble shooting. He was a gifted long-arm quilter. He was a good whistler and had a wicked underarm softball pitch.
John was a dedicated family man, who his family could always rely on. He had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to tease his grandchildren. John was looking forward to the arrival of his first great grandson Lincoln on October 17th. His family will treasure their memories.
John is survived by his wife Erin, 4 children: Donna (Randy) Sullivan of Riverdale, MI, Cory Graybiel of Anderson, IN, Michael (Angie) Harrier of Maricopa, AZ, and Nicholas Harrier of Bay City, MI; 5 grandchildren: Shayla (Brendan) Makidon, RJ Sullivan, Isabella Sullivan, Garett Stowe, and Charlie Graybiel; and his beloved dog Murphy. He is also survived by 3 brothers: Jim (Winn) Harrier, Gary (Sandy) Harrier and Tom (Sue) Harrier; and many nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death his parents, and 3 brothers: Bill, Dan, and Robert.
