John Parling

John C. "Jack" Parling age 79 of Ithaca, Michigan died Sunday, October 22, 2006 at his home.

Funeral Services will be Wednesday, October 25, 2006 at 11:00 A.M. at Smith Funeral Homes, Ithaca Chapel. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. Pastor Jim Micheff will officiate and burial will be at North Star Cemetery, North Star, Michigan.

Jack was born in Alma, Michigan on March 7, 1927 the son of Verne & Cordie (Cowdrey) Parling. He graduated from Ithaca High School with the class of 1944. On May 29, 1948 he married Evelyn May Kirby in Ithaca, Michigan. He served his country in the US Navy during WW2 serving on the USS Begor APD-127 and was a life member of the Ithaca VFW Post. He was a life member of the Alma Elks #1400 and was a past exultant ruler.

Jack had worked as a car salesman for Davis Ford in Ithaca, Michigan for 40 years. He and his wife also farmed for the past 30 years. He was a private pilot and enjoyed flying. He also liked to hunt and fish.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Parling, of Ithaca, Michigan, 3 sons; James Parling of Ithaca, Michigan, Gary Parling of Ithaca, Michigan and Tom Parling of Detour, Michigan, 1 granddaughter, Melissa Parling of Lansing, Michigan, 2 great grandchildren; Jacob & Allyson of Lansing, Michigan, 2 sisters; Betty King of Lansing, Michigan, Marjorie Goostrey of Ithaca, Michigan, 2 brothers; Richard & Evelyn Parling of Crystal, Michigan, Donald & Diane Parling of Watersmeet, Michigan. He was predeceased by his parents, 1 sister Donna & 1 brother Melvin.

Memorials can be made to the Gratiot Area Hospice. The family is being served by Smith Funeral Homes, Ithaca Chapel.
