John F. Quine, Sr., age 88, of Elsie, Michigan, passed away Sunday, June 6, 2021, at Memorial Healthcare in Owosso, MI.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church, Ovid, MI, at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, June 10, 2021, with Rev. Fr. Robert C. Bacik presiding. Burial will take place at Fairfield Township Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday June 9, 2021 from 2-8 with family present 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel. A Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
John was born in Grand Rapids, MI on January 29, 1933, the son of William T. and Frances J. (Klapp) Quine. On June 13, 1953, he married Virginia King at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Owosso, MI. They were blessed with 61 years of marriage, prior to Virginia's passing on July 6, 2014.
John raised beagles and bird dogs for field and trial. He served on the chain gang for Ovid Elsie Football for many years. He was a member of the Elsie Lions Club. He was a member of the Michigan Society of Professional Surveyors Association and he received a lifetime achievement award in 2021. When he graduated from high school he joined the Navy Sea Bees. When there was an event that his grandchildren were involved in, John made a point to be there. He was also a member of Holy Family Catholic Church.
He is survived by his children: Frank and Melvia Quine of Ovid, MI;
Tim and Brenda Quine of Bannister, MI; Jim and Mary Quine of Frankfort, MI; Daniel Quine of Lansing, MI; Sue and Rick Rademacher of Moorestown, MI; Jerry Quine of Elsie, MI; 14 grandchildren, 27 great- grandchildren; and his brother William Quine of Ann Arbor, MI. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Virginia, sister-in-law Becky (Hamilton) Quine, and daughter-in-law Karen (Bishop) Quine.
