John Shepard

John "Jack" Shepard born to Phillip and Viola Shepard April 15, 1918 in Jackson, Michigan passed away April 29, 2011 at 93 years old.

He graduated from Owosso High School and completed coursework at Lansing Community College and the University of Michigan. Mr. Shepard was a WWII veteran who served his country four years in the England, Africa and Italy theaters, attaining the rank of Master Sergeant. He retired from the Michigan Department of Transportation after 30 years of service constructing roads and bridges across Michigan. He was a long time member of the First Baptist Church of Owosso serving on the Trustee and Deaconate Boards.

Mr. Shepard enjoyed traveling to his cottage up north and spending time with his friends and flying out of the Owosso Airport.

He was preceded in death by his wife Annie (Brainerd) Shepard in May of 1994 after 49 years of marriage. Brothers Seton and Winston Shepard also preceded him in death. He is survived by daughter Julie (Brian) Banfield, Sister-in-law, Teresa Graham, special friend of the family Marge Burke and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be on Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Jennings-Lyons Chapel, family will receive friends 4:00-7:00PM, Monday, May 2, 2011 at the funeral home. Funeral services will be performed by Pastor Ray Strawser of the First Baptist Church in Owosso, Michigan. Interment will be at Oak-Grove Cemetery in Owosso Township.

Sympathies may be expressed in the form of memorial contributions to the First Baptist Church of Owosso. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, Jennings-Lyons Chapel, Owosso.
