John Thomas Sr

John J. Thomas Sr., age 66, of Elsie, MI went to be with the Lord on Monday, October 29, 2012 at Hospice House of Mid-Michigan.

Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Elsie Chapel Elsie, MI on Thursday, November 1, 2012 at 1:00 P.M. with Rev. Ron Lovell & Rev. Jim Secord officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, Elsie, Michigan. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 30, 2012 from 6-8 P.M. and Wednesday, October 31, 2012 from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M.

John was born in Lansing, Michigan on March 25, 1946, the son of Ralph Fredrick and Eva Louise (Powers) Thomas. He married Kathy Kaye Robinson on March 15, 1965 in Corunna, Michigan. John formerly worked as a welder at Moore Iron Works. He was a member of Fenmore Baptist Church, formerly serving on the Deacon Board and many other church committees. John was a craftsman and enjoyed woodworking, loved spending time with his family, making people laugh and truly loved his church. He was always interested in his children's projects and grandchildren sports activities.

John is survived by his wife of 47 years Kathy Thomas of Elsie, MI, son John and Teresa Thomas, Jr. of Perry, MI, daughter Camie and Jeff Chapko of Elsie, MI, daughter Michelle and Kurt Tullar of Elsie, MI, son Rob and Terri Thomas of Chesaning, MI, 13 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, 3 sisters; Norma Peterson of Lansing, MI, Hazel and Glenn Rodgers of Jasper, FL and Helen and Mike Daley of Ithaca, MI, and Kathy's brother and sisters. John was predeceased by 3 sisters; Lillian Casteel, Florence Parks and Doris Flanner, infant brother Ralph Jr., infant sister Ada and stillborn brother.
