John Baker

John Thomas "Tom" Baker, age 71, of Ashley, MI passed away Friday, October 31, 2014 at his home.

Per his request, there will be no formal funeral service. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 5, 2014 from 2-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Ithaca, MI.

Tom was born in Gratiot County, Michigan on July 16, 1943, the son of Leo Glenn and Anna (Horvath) Baker. Tom married Colleen Marie Trace in Chesaning in 1971; she preceded him in death in 1997. Tom was a lifelong resident of Gratiot County. He enjoyed going to auctions and collecting antiques. Tom loved to deer hunt and take his sons fishing. He loved mushroom hunting going to yard sales. Tom loved his dogs, chickens, and his pet duck. One of his favorite greetings was "hey friend."

Tom is survived by his 6 children; William Baker of Hillsdale, MI, Jerry Baker and Brooke Hammond of Lake, MI, John Baker of Hillsdale, MI, Chris Baker of Bradenton, FL, Thomas Baker of Bradenton, FL, Michael Baker of Ithaca, MI, 21 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, 3 brothers; Leo and Karen Baker of Spring Hill, FL, Herb and Martha Baker of Ithaca, MI, Rexford Baker of Spring Hill, FL, 2 sisters; Sue Lombard of Ithaca, MI, and Ella and Barry Baker-Robinson of Perrinton, MI, and companion Cindy Vining of Middleton, MI. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Colleen, and brother Gary Baker.
