John Walker

John H. Walker, best known as "Jack", age 89, passed away peacefully Saturday, December 22, 2012 while being cared for at the Mid-Michigan Medical Center – Gratiot in Alma, MI.

Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Louis, MI on Friday December 28, 2012 at 11:00 A.M with Pastor Phil Maxwell and Pastor Rodolfo Diaz-Pons officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, December 27, 2012 from 4-8 P.M. Burial will take place at Oak Grove Cemetery St. Louis, Michigan.

Jack was born in Lansing, Michigan, the son of Cyrus Herbert and Nellie Ann Walker. He had been a continuous resident of St Louis since his parents returned to the family homestead, several years after his birth, in Lansing. After graduating from St Louis High, he was called to service in World War II and was a veteran of the D-Day invasion of Omaha Beach, the Allied march across Europe, and the Battle of the Bulge.

At the end of the War, Jack received his Bachelor of Science degree from Central Michigan College of Education in Mt. Pleasant. He was hired at Lansing Fisher Body Division of General Motors, retiring as a Human Resources Administrator in 1985. He married the former Mary Francis Ison of Nicholasville, Kentucky. He loved traveling and fishing, but most of all he loved his wife, family members, and the warm relationship that he maintained with his many dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Mary Francis, his parents, half-brother Kenneth Sharp and his beloved sisters; Eulalia (Walker) Taylor and Edwina Lorraine (Betty Walker) Brooks of Dimondale, Michigan. He is survived by several wonderful nephews and nieces and their issue including Bob Walker, Frank Walker, Rodney Walker, Doris Jean (Taylor) Kersey, Vern Taylor, Dave Taylor, Gary Taylor, Yvonne Sharp and Mary Ann Sharp. He will be missed by many friends, too numerous to mention, that he cultivated over nine decades of exemplary life.
