Johnny "John" Russell Reathford, age 65, of Elsie, MI died Friday, February 18, 2011 at Hospice House of Mid-Michigan in Lansing.
Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Elsie Chapel Elsie, MI on Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at 1:00 P.M. with Pastor Jim Beckwith will officiate. Burial will follow at Fairfield Township Cemetery, Fairfield, MI. Visitation will be held on Monday, February 21, 2011 from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes Elsie Chapel Elsie, MI.
John was born in Lauderdale County, Alabama on September 4, 1945, the son of Russell and Lela (Martin) Reathford. He grew up in Lauderdale County, Alabama and moved to Fairfield Township in 1966. John married Dorothy M. Langhals in Chapin Township, Michigan on November 2, 1968. He was a die caster at A.O. Smith for 34 1/2 years before retiring in 2002. John loved fishing on the Grand River in Muir for steelhead and walleye, camping, boating and visiting casinos in the U.P. John had a love for all animals especially his two cats, Pepper and Sam.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Dorothy Reathford of Elsie, 2 daughters; Jenny Cavender of Conway, Arkansas and Jill Reathford of Traverse City, 2 granddaughters; Jaclyn of Lansing and Sara of Arkansas and 1 grandson Cash of Arkansas. John is also survived by 1 brother Jimmie Reathford of Florence, Alabama and 2 sisters, Linda Reathford, Mary Reathford and Margaret Hayes, all of Florence, Alabama, as well as several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He is also survived by special friends; Don and Mary Taylor of Elsie, Harold and Brenda Strieff of Ovid, and Richard Kusnier of Elsie. John was preceded in death by his parents, twin daughters, Jackie and Jeannie Reathford, one sister, Faye Russell and several aunts and uncles.
