Joseph L. “Joe” Hernandez age 74 of Alma, MI, passed away Saturday, January 27, 2018 at Mid Michigan Medical, Midland, MI, surrounded by his family.

Funeral Services will be held at Seville Community Church of God, Elwell, MI, on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at 3:00 P.M., with Pastor George Showers officiating.  Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 1:00 P.M. until the time of the funeral service.

Joe was born in Coe, MI on May 12, 1943, the son of Louis and Juanita (Lopez) Hernandez.  He graduated from St. Louis High School.  Joe married Janet Kessler on May 29, 1961 in St. Louis, MI.

Joe retired from Alma Products in 2006.  Joe loved fishing, hunting, working in the yard, cooking and gardening.  Spending time with his family brought him great joy.  The time he spent snuggling his grandbabies and singing to them was very special.  Joe was a member of the Seville Community Church of God and he loved his church family.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Janet Hernandez of Alma, MI, children: Joe and Lisa Hernandez of St. Louis, MI; Cindy and Doug Rennells of Ithaca, MI; Rob and Pam Hernandez of St. Louis, MI; Stephanie Hernandez of Alma, MI; Mary Olson of Riverdale, MI; grandchildren: Zachary Hernandez, Heather and Chase Cochran, David Shrader, Jenn and Cody Reed, Jeremy Rennells, Breann Hernandez, Tom (Lindsey Cole) Anderson, Jacob Olson, Kharley Hernandez, Sara and Tom Mclaren, great grandchildren: Logan, Avery, and Brooklyn Shrader, Autumn Mann, Gabe Cole, Aubree Hernandez, Kevin Cochran, Hannah Mclaren, Oliver Reed, Bentley Hernandez, Wyatt Cochran, and baby girl Reed on the way. He is also survived by siblings: Lupe and Gary Slocum of TX; Angela Jenison of Ithaca, MI; Alice and Dick Stimpert of Edmore, MI; Ray and Cindy Hernandez of St. Louis, MI; sisters in law: Leah Erskin of TN, Linda McKinney of IN, and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Kristina Joann Hernandez, father and mother in law, Russell and Ora Kessler, brothers: John and Sylvia Hernandez, Jim Hernandez, and brother in law Mike and Susan Kessler.
