Josephine Chapin

Josephine “Josie” Ann Chapin, age 94, of Ashley, Michigan passed away Thursday, March 31, 2016 at Carson City Hospital, Carson City, MI.

Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Elsie, MI on Thursday, April 7, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. with Mr. Thomas Bradley officiating.  Burial will take place at Ford Cemetery Gratiot County, MI.  Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 6, 2016 from 4-8 P.M.

Josie was born in Ashley, Michigan on December 15, 1921, the daughter of Matus and Vera (Minarik) Martinka.  On January 17, 1942 she married Myrl Ray Chapin in Ithaca, Michigan. Myrl died on December 15, 2005.  Josie was a homemaker and she helped her husband on the family farm.  Josie was an active member of the ZCBJ Lodge #225 in Bannister, Michigan. She cooked and took part in the many service and social activities of the lodge.  She received her 75 year membership pin several years ago. Josie resided virtually all of her life in the Ashley area.

Josie is survived by her daughter Norma (Robert Lawrence) Hohn of Lawrence KS, two grandsons; Robert Lee Hohn of Nashville. TN, Keith Lawrence (Joanna) Hohn of Manhattan, KS, two grandchildren; Elizabeth Anne and Ryan Michael Hohn, two sisters; Arleen (Richard) Zvonek, Elaine Zajdlik, sister in law Dorothy Martinka, special cousin Lorraine Fett, and special niece Carol Smolka.  She was predeceased by her parents, husband, brother Melvin Martinka and brother in law Edward Zajdlik.
