Juanita Quintela, age 96, of Elsie, Michigan passed away Thursday, December 29, 2011 at Ovid Healthcare Center, Ovid, Michigan.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Cyril's Catholic Church Bannister, MI on Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at 11:00 A.M., with Rev. Fr. Marcel Portelli officiating. Burial will follow at Ford Cemetery Gratiot County, MI. Visitation will be held on Monday, January 2, 2012 from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes Elsie Chapel Elsie, MI. Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 P.M. Monday at the funeral home.
Juanita was born in New Braunfels, Texas on February 15, 1915, the daughter of Luis Villarreal and Cleta (Villarreal) Villarreal. Juanita married Zenon Quintela Sr. on August 25, 1940 in San Antonio, Texas. Juanita enjoyed bingo, bunko, crocheting, painting ceramics and making Christmas ornaments. She loved cooking for her grandchildren and spending time with her family. Juanita also enjoyed camping with her family. She was a member of St. Cyril's Catholic Church in Bannister and St. Therese of Lansing.
She is survived by 2 daughters; Guadalupe Ortiz of Elsie, MI, Juanita and Albert Trujillo of Bannister, MI, 2 sons; Phillip and Mary Quintela of Lansing, MI, Gilbert and Esther Quintela of San Diego, CA, 21 grandchildren, 43 great grandchildren, 6 great great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Juanita is predeceased by her husband, son Zenon Quintela Jr., son in law Frank Ortiz Sr., grandson Albert Trujillo Jr., great granddaughter Jessica Ortiz, special nephew Don Villarreal, parents, 2 brothers and 3 sisters.
