Kathryne Elizabeth Snell, age 86, of Higgins Lake, MI. and Wabasso, FL., formerly of Owosso, MI passed away Tuesday, June 9, 2009 at her residence in Florida.
Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Jennings-Lyons Chapel Owosso, MI on Monday, June 15, 2009 at 11:00 A.M., Rev. Ray Strawser will officiate. Burial will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery Owosso, MI. Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 13, 2009 from 6-8 P.M. and Sunday, June 14, 2009 from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes Jennings-Lyons Chapel Owosso, MI.
Kathryne was born in Bicknell, Indiana on December 16, 1922, the daughter of Homer and Blanch (Wagstaff) Cargal. She graduated from Princeton High School in 1940. Kathryne married Elwyn Snell on April 4, 1944 in Owosso, MI. She worked for Indian Trails and then in 1947 she went to work for Universal Electric, working as a stenographer, secretary and director of public relations for the firm from 1972 until her retirement. She received the Athena Award from the Owosso Chamber of Commerce. She had served as the president, vice president, secretary and a term as chairman of the Chamber Ambassadors Club. Kathryne also served on the Heritage Footbridge Committee and the executive board of the Tall Pine Council of the Boy Scouts of America. She also served as president and vice president of the Zonta Club of Owosso. Kathryne enjoyed cooking, gardening and public service. Kathryne resided most of her life in the Owosso area until her retirement. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Owosso where she served as a lay minister. She also attended Markey Baptist Church in Higgins Lake and First Baptist Church in Vero Beach in Florida.
She is survived by her husband Elwyn Snell, daughter Kathryne and James Nuveman of Owosso, MI, son Edward (Patty Nelson) Snell of Owosso, MI, 4 grandchildren; Jason Nuveman, Jennifer and Bill Lehrer, Jared and Angela Nuveman, and Justin Nuveman, 3 great grandchildren Anna Lehrer, Leia Lehrer, Stella Nuveman, 2 sisters; Martha Horne and Evelyn McClure, and special friends; Paul Whitson and Craig Jones. She was predeceased by her parents, seven sisters and four brothers.
