Keith Daniel Wing, age 75, of St. Louis, MI passed away Saturday, September 1st, 2012 at his home surrounded by his family.
Keith is survived by his wife Judy Wing of St. Louis, MI; his children, Amy Wilks,
David and Melissa Wing, John and Joni Wing, Joe and Becky Wing, Sara and Tim Bissell, Jacob and Karen Wing; 16 Grandchildren and 1 Brother Nelson and Rosalee Wing.
A Memorial Service will be held at St. Louis High School on Friday, September 7th at 1:00 P.M., Father James Bessert will officiate. Visitation will be held on Wednesday September 5 and Thursday September 6, 2012 from 2-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes St. Louis Chapel St. Louis, MI. Per Keith's wishes cremation has taken place.
Keith was born in Saginaw, Michigan on October 22, 1936, the son of Dave and Maude (Shearer) Wing.
Keith completed his bachelors and masters degree at Central Michigan University. He did additional graduate work at Michigan State University and Saginaw Valley State University. He began his teaching career in 1961 at St. Louis High School, where he was also a cross country and track coach. He became the middle school principal at Coleman Community Schools in 1965. Keith returned to St. Louis Public Schools in 1970 as elementary principal. He was director of a summer camp for emotionally impaired students for Gratiot County. Keith became St. Louis assistant high school principal in 1982 and became the high school principal in 1984-1999 at his first retirement. He was also special education director for St. Louis Schools. He was a university coordinator for Central Michigan University for 11 years. Keith was the assistant principal for Ithaca Junior/ Senior High from 2005-2008. He devoted over 50 years to public education. Keith was president elect of the Gratiot County Community Foundation, on the board of Big Brothers Big Sisters, a member of the Optimist Club and the Lions Club of St. Louis. He was also a member of Mt. St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Keith loved teaching; his horses, his garden and watching his grandchildren participate in their extra-curricular activities. In his later years he enjoyed traveling and competitive golf with family and his close friend, Craig. He loved the polka, opera and telling jokes, often laughing before the punch line.
Keith taught the people he came in contact with many lessons including, patience, caring for others and a strong moral compass of right and wrong. The man and his character will be sorely missed by many.
Keith is preceded in death by his parents, father in law Lloyd Wise, wife Barbara and granddaughter Peyton Kaye.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Gratiot County Community Foundation Keith and Judy Wing Donor Fund, P.O. Box 310 Ithaca, MI 48847, envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
