Kelvin Grandy Grant, 58, of Alma, MI, passed away Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at his home.
Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Home Ithaca, MI on Friday, September 23, 2016 at 11:00 A.M., with Pastor Paul Kile officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 22, 2016 from 4:00-8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
Kelvin was born in Windsor, NC on September 8, 1958, the son of Harold Wendell Grant and Kertrina (Grandy) Watson. He attended school for ages and received his PhD from Cornell University. He proceeded to work at DuPont Pioneer for over 10 years acquiring 9 patents and taking every opportunity to share his passion for agriculture through teaching. An active member of the Omega Psi Phi he was also a community leader serving in many different organizations ranging from the Farm Bureau to the Boys and Girls Club. He loved to give back and would donate to libraries in the county every month as well as setting up scholarship funds for minority students interested in Agriculture. He was very active, biking a leisurely 20-25 miles a day and recently becoming a certified personal trainer with the plan to help others achieve their fitness goals. The community, agriculture, and his daughter all meant the world to him.
He is survived by his daughter Nisaa Grant of Mt. Pleasant, MI, brother Jeorge Watson of Brooklyn, NY, sister Sheri Grant of Virginia Beach, VA, brother Eric Grant of Windsor, NC and aunt Gloria Grant of Ahoskie, NC, and several cousins. He is preceded in death by his grandma Cornelia Grandy, parents, and aunt and uncle Gladys & Karl Grandy.
