Kenneth E. Compton, age 85, of Corunna, MI passed away Sunday, October 23, 2011 at Memorial Healthcare, Owosso, MI.
Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Corunna Chapel Corunna, MI on Thursday, October 27, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Brian Heidt officiating. Burial will follow at Wilkinson Cemetery, Venice Township, MI. Visitation will be held on Tuesday October 25, 2011 from 6-8 PM and Wednesday, October 26, 2011 from 2-8 PM with family present 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the funeral home.
Kenneth was born in Owosso, Michigan on December 24, 1925, the son Elmer and Vera (Weeks) Compton. Kenneth resided most of his life in Corunna and was a graduate of Owosso High School with the class of 1943. He served his country in the U.S. Army as a Cpl in WW II.
Kenneth married Rosemary Gurden on June 6, 1948 in Owosso, MI. She passed away on January 31, 2000. Kenneth then married Vivian on April 26, 2002 in Owosso, MI.
Kenneth retired from Harrelson Chevrolet Sales in 1987 and continued working for them on a part-time basis for many years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was an active life member of the Corunna VFW Post #4005 where he served on the Honor Guard. Kenneth was a member of St. Phillip Lutheran Church of Owosso.
He is survived by his wife Vivian Compton of Corunna, MI, daughter Sue and George Turnwald of New Lothrop, MI, step daughter Christine and Bradley Walker of Davison, MI, step son Mark and Kim Compton of Corunna, MI, granddaughter Rebecca Turnwald of Mason, MI, step-grandchildren; Alycia and Andy Dolan of Davison, MI, Daven and Kristen Walker of Davison, MI, 2 step-great-grandchildren, sister Joyce and Jake Spencer of Owosso, MI, sister-in-law Virginia Compton of Corunna, MI, sister-in-law Betty Smith of Owosso, MI, and brother-in-law Wayne Gurden of Owosso, MI. Kenneth is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, brother Bob Compton and sister Shirley Schlaack.
