Larry Maurice Houlden, age 78, of Pompeii, MI, passed away after a brief illness Saturday, November 14, 2020, at Mid-Michigan Medical Center - Gratiot, Alma.
Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Ithaca, MI, at 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday, November 17, 2020, with Pastor Paul Loney officiating. Burial will follow at Ithaca Cemetery. Visitation will be held 2-8 P.M. on Monday, November 16, 2020 at the funeral home.
Larry was born in Breckenridge, Michigan on January 19, 1942, the son of Donald M. and Dorothy I. (Curren) Houlden. He graduated from Ithaca High School with the class of 1960. Larry worked in road construction for many years and made many close friends.
On April 28, 1962, Larry married Sharon Collison at the Ithaca Methodist Church. After 50 years of marriage, Sharon passed away in 2012. On January 25, 2014, Larry married Patricia Ann Slagell at the New Haven Church of the Brethren where they attend.
Larry was a kind and caring person. He enjoyed the winters spent in Arizona and Florida. He had a passion for working with horses and watching rodeos and horse shows. He liked going to car shows and owning his classic sports cars. Most of all, Larry loved his family and cherished their time together.
Larry is survived by his wife Pat, 2 daughters: Debbie (Rick) Becker of Ithaca, MI and Mary Jo Houlden of St. Louis, MI; step-daughter Nancy (Phil) Rogers of Ashley, MI and step-son Rob (Adele Sheahan) Slagell of Pompeii, MI. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren: Zach Becker, Heather Becker, Morgan (Jayde) Lippert, Ryan Gantz, Courtney (Cody) Sieracki, Alyssa (Spencer) Fitzpatrick, Miranda Rogers, Kyle Slagell, and Alex Slagell; and 5 great-grandchildren. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Sharon, and one sister Janet Palmer.
