LaVerne Bailey

LaVerne LeRoy Bailey age 79 of St. Louis, Michigan died Tuesday, October 17, 2006 at Schnepp Health Care Center St. Louis, MI.

Memorial Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Louis Chapel St. Louis, MI on Monday, October 23, 2006 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Lillian French officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service from 10:00 - 11:00.

LaVerne was born in Midland County, Michigan on May 21, 1927 the son of George Nelson and Gertrude Bell ( Quidort ) Bailey. He resided most of his life in the St. Louis area and graduated from St. Louis High School with the class of 1946. He served in the U.S. Navy during WW II. LaVerne married Namah Stanton on October 20, 1951 in Ithaca, Michigan. She died on May 2, 1992. He retired from Dow Chemical in 1986. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and golfer. LaVerne was a member of St. Louis First United Methodist Church.

He is survived by 3 children; George Bailey & fiancAC.e Gail English of Lansing, MI, Larry Bailey of Midland, MI, Ellen & Robert Phelps of Golden, CO, 2 grandchildren; Nolan & Christine Bailey of Denver, CO, Jorgi Bailey of Lansing, MI, step-granddaughter Jefti VanValkenburg, 3 step-great grandchild; Michael, Alexandria, and Kaleb Peters, 3 sisters; Helen & James Humphrey of Olympia, WA, Florine & Darrell "Buzz" Brown of St. Louis, MI, and Nancy Bailey of Lagrange, IN. He is predeceased by his parents, wife, 3 brothers, Orlo "Burrel", Loyal, and Dale, and 1 sister Ilah.

Memorials may be made to St. Louis First United Methodist Church or the Theodore Austin Cutler Memorial Library. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Louis Chapel.
