Lawrence Edward Crego, age 80, of Owosso, MI passed away Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at home with his family by his side.
Funeral Services will be held at Grace Lutheran Church, Durand, MI. on Saturday, March 13, 2010 at 10:30 A.M., Pastor A.J. Kunde will officiate. Burial will take place at Pine Tree Cemetery Corunna, MI. Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 11, 2010 from 6-8 P.M. and Friday, March 12, 2010 from 2-8 with the family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Corunna Chapel, Corunna, MI.
Lawrence was born in Saginaw, Michigan on November 12, 1929, the son of Lawrence Owen and Lucille (Serr) Crego. He graduated from Owosso High School with the class of 1947. Lawrence married Norma Feindt on August 11, 1951 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Owosso. He served in the U.S. Air Force.
Lawrence was a farmer for twelve years, raising chickens and selling the eggs. He and his wife owned and operated Olde Fields Restaurant for fifteen years before selling it. Lawrence retired from Corunna Public Schools in 1995. He was a driver for Young Chevrolet-Cadillac for several years after his retirement. Lawrence enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and going to the family cabin in Frederic, MI. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his family. He always liked a good joke and telling stories. Lawrence resided most of his life in the Owosso area. He was a member and past president of the Owosso Lion's club. He was also a member of Grace Lutheran Church where he served on several church boards.
He is survived by his wife Norma Crego, his children; Ed and Sylvia Crego of West Virginia, Jayne and Chris Reimel of Sterling Heights, MI, Mary and Thomas Murawa of Oscoda, MI, Rick and Kaye Crego of Durand, MI, Joe and Karrie Crego of Owosso, MI, Tom and Elaine Crego of Durand, MI, son-in-law Steve Harris of Owosso, MI, 16 grandchildren; Brian and Stacey Kelly, Dan and Shawnna Cody, Steve and Kara Calandrucci, Trent and Rhiannon Reimel, Richie Beattie, Jamie and Jennifer Beattie, Jerry and Janelle Huckaba, Steve and Stacey Murawa, Jeff and Ashley Murawa, Ashley Crego, Aaron Crego, Jacob Junglas, Darcy Crego, Vinnie Crego, Kelly Crego, Wyatt Crego, great grandchildren; Max Kelly, Myah Kelly, Calvin Cody, Evan Cody, Clark Cody, Jocelyn Calandrucci, Anthony Calandrucci, Vanya Calandrucci, Noah Reimel, Elisa Beattie, Dakota Huckaba, Casey Huckaba, Brayden Murawa, and 1 sister Shirley and Cloyse Lundy. Lawrence was predeceased by his parents and daughter Joanne Harris.
