Lawrence Carroll "Larry" Freed, age 77, of Alma, MI passed away Friday, May 15, 2015 at his home.
Funeral Services will be held at New Haven Church of God, Sumner, MI, on Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor John Hagerman officiating. Burial will take place at New Haven Township Cemetery, Gratiot County, MI. Visitation will be held on Monday, May 18, 2015 from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Ithaca, MI.
Lawrence was born in Sumner, Michigan on May 29, 1937, the son of Clarence and Anna (Charter) Freed. He married Sara Neiman on July 27, 1963 in Davison, MI. They would have celebrated 53 years of marriage this summer.
Lawrence retired from Lobdell Emery in 1991 after 35 years of service. He enjoyed biking, walking and taking care of his yard, in Michigan and in Florida. Lawrence and Sara enjoyed traveling together, they visited many places including, Eastern Ontario, Lake Superior Circle Tour, Alaska, Oregon and the Eastern Seaboard. They spent the last 16 winters in Ft. Myers, Florida. He loved spending time with his grandsons and challenging them. Lawrence was a member of the Alma Elks Lodge and the Moose Lodge in St. Louis. He was also a member of New Haven Church of God, Sumner, MI.
He is survived by his wife Sara Freed of Alma, MI, son Matthew Freed and Sue Esquibel of Port Huron, MI, 2 daughters; Marcia and John Siebert of Hot Springs, AR, Jennifer and Soubanh Soukhome of Holland, MI, 6 grandsons; Marcus Freed of Ithaca, MI, Douglas Freed of San Jose, CA, Johnathan and Marissa Siebert of Summerville, SC, Daniel Siebert of Summerville, SC, Cameron Soukhome of Holland, MI, Justin Soukhome of Holland, MI, siblings; Josephine Blakeslee, Elmer and Patricia Freed, Burdell Burch, Zelma and Lyle Parks, Lois Gittleman, Harry and Betty Freed, and LaVerne Barr. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother and sister in law Alvin and Barbra Freed, brothers in law; Rex Blakeslee, Clifford Burch, Benjamin Gittleman, Julian Barr and baby brother Benjamin Freed.
