Lawrence Riley Sisco, age 89, of Elsie, Michigan passed away after his courageous battle with cancer, on Monday, November 5, 2012 at his home with his family by his side.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Cyril's Catholic Church Bannister, MI on Saturday, November 10, 2012 at 10:00 A.M., with Rev. Fr. Marcel Portelli officiating. Burial will take place at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Owosso, Michigan. Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 8, 2012 from 6-8 P.M. and on Friday, November 9, 2012 from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes Elsie Chapel Elsie, MI. A Vigil Service will be held on Friday at 6:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
Lawrence was born in Owosso, Michigan on June 30, 1923, the son of Ralph H. and Marguerite H. (Flynn) Sisco. He was a graduate of St. Paul Catholic High School. Larry and Joanne were married on November 26, 1965 in Lake George, MI. They renewed their vows on October 18, 2001 at St. Paul Catholic Church.
Larry was an avid golfer, and even shot a hole-in-one in 2011. He also loved bowling, fishing & hunting. He was the lead singer of his band, The Down Yonder Boys. Larry served his country in the U.S. Navy during WW II. He was a member of the American Legion of Elsie and a lifetime member of the VFW in Owosso. He was also a member of St. Paul Catholic Church of Owosso where he was an altar server and was a member St. Cyril Catholic Church of Bannister. Larry resided most of his life in the Ovid Elsie area. Family was a very important part of his life.
He is survived by his wife Joanne Sisco of Elsie, MI, 4 sons; Robert and Cheryl Sisco of Mountain Home, ID, Thomas and Laurie Sisco of Traverse City, MI, Lawrence and Holly Sisco of Lansing, MI, Peter Welter III of Ovid, MI, 6 daughters; Rebecca and Robert Norman of Bothill, WA, Rosemary Sisco and Van Green of Owosso, MI, Lori Jones of Elsie, MI, Faith and Jerome Waterous of Laingsburg, MI, Paula Welter of Carland, MI, Carolyn Welter of Elsie, MI, 16 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and sister Helen Sisco of Owosso, MI. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, son John Welter, and 3 brothers; Ralph, Robert & Kenneth Sisco.
