Lawrence Robert "Bob" Sumner, age 92, of St. Louis, MI passed away Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at his home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Patrick Ryan Church (4708 N. Meridian Rd, Merrill, MI 48637) on Friday, July 25, 2014 at 11:00 A.M., with Rev. Fr. Nate Harburg officiating. Burial will take place at Jasper Township Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday July 24, 2014 from 2-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Louis, MI, and for one hour prior to the service at the church. A Prayer Vigil will be held at 6:30 P.M. on Thursday Evening at the funeral home.

Lawrence was born in Shepherd, Michigan on June 8, 1922, the son of Agustus and Louise (Bollman) Sumner. Lawrence married Arlene Bott January 22, 1949 in Remus, Michigan.

Bob served his country in the United States Army during WWII where he received a Purple Heart. Bob retired from General Motors after 34 years of service. Bob enjoyed camping, playing cards, gardening and spending time with his family. He was a member of the UAW Local 467 and St. Patrick Ryan Church.

He is survived by his wife Arlene Sumner of St. Louis, MI, children; Sam and Lou Ann Sumner of Breckenridge, MI, Mary and Bill Wheelock of Harrison, MI, Denise Sumner of Mt. Pleasant, MI, Jim and Darla Sumner of Wheeler, MI, Keith and Carla Sumner of Naples, FL, Barb and David Hamp of Shepherd, MI, Jerry Sumner of Alma, MI, Linda Sumner and Chuck Wright of St. Louis, MI, grandchildren; Konrad, Troy, Shawn, Nick, Breanna Sumner, Bill Wheelock, David Sumner, Marc, Matt, Austin Sumner, Tiffany, Stacey, Ryan Sumner, Chris Bruno, Jason Cocchi, Daniel, Ashley Hamp, Brandon, Trevor Richardson, and 24 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Louise and Gerald Jackson of Sanford, MI and many nieces & nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, 6 brothers and 6 sisters.
