Leona R. Bickel age 81 of St. Louis, Michigan, died Thursday, October 21, 2004 at Schnepp Health Care Center, St. Louis, Michigan.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, October 23, 2004 at 11:00 A.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Louis Chapel. Pastor Lillian French will officiate with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, St. Louis, Michigan. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 22, 2004 2-4 & 6-8 P.M.
Leona was born in Midland County, Michigan on December 3, 1922 the daughter of Leland & Amanda ( Peach ) Laning. She graduated from St. Louis High School with the class of 1940
She was a lifelong resident of St. Louis, Michigan. Leona married Harley Bickel in Midland, Michigan on August 8, 1940.
She retired from Consumers Power Company in Alma in 1983. Leona was very family oriented; she loved spending time with them. She taught piano lessons for many years. She loved to crochet and knit.
She was a member of St. Louis United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband Harley Bickel of St. Louis, MI, 1 daughter; Angela & Bob Cooper of St. Louis, MI, 1 son; Philip & Susan Bickel of Jackson, MI, 6 grandchildren; Matthew & Pattie Cooper of Caledonia, MI, Mandi & Pat Cook of DeWitt, MI, Heidi & Gary Cook of DeWitt, MI, Paul & Linda Bickel of Grass Lake, MI, Dustin & Angie Cooper of Kentwood, MI, Dan & Kim Bickel of Jackson, MI, 9 great grandchildren; Kelsey, Nicholas, Lauren, Travis, Madison, Meghan, Katie, Dylan, Audrey, 1 brother; Dale & Julie Laning of Venice, FL. She is predeceased by her parents, brother; Clair, sisters; Helen, Bernice, Beulah & Lucille.
