Leonard Lee Barnes, age 76, of Riverdale, Michigan died Thursday, June 27, 2013 at his home.
Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Ithaca, MI on Monday, July 1, 2013 at 11:00 A.M., with Mr. Keith Wise officiating. Burial will take place at New Haven Township Cemetery, Gratiot County, Michigan. Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 30, 2013 from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home.
Leonard was born in Carson City, Michigan on February 25, 1937, the son of Veryl and Norma (Martin) Barnes. Leonard graduated from Fulton High School. He served his country in the US Army retiring after 20 years of service. He also retired from General Motors in Lansing. Leonard enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching soccer and playing cards. He resided most of his life in New Haven Township and Riverdale, Michigan. He was a member of the American Legion Post #380, Carson City, Michigan.
He is survived by his daughter Melinda and James Wiseman of Riverdale, MI, son Tony Lee Barnes and Kiran Shrestha of Germany, granddaughters; Mya, Liala and Ava, 2 sisters; Judy Goodman and Gus Grieve, and Jean Avey, 3 brothers; Fred and Nancy Barnes, Nelson Keys, and Roger and Carol Keys, special brother in law Donald Shaffer, his best friends; Mick and Big John, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his grandparents who raised him; Harry & Iva Barnes, parents, and 2 sisters; Dorothy Shaffer, Barbara Petersen and 2 brother in laws, Ken Petersen and Bruce Avey.
