Leone Elizabeth Thorne age 93 of Owosso, Michigan died Tuesday, March 25, 2008 at Oliver Woods Retirement Village, Owosso, Michigan.
A Memorial Service will be held at First Congregational United Church of Christ Owosso, MI on Friday, April 4, 2008 at 1:00 PM. Rev. James Eaton will officiate with burial at Oak Hill Cemetery Owosso, Michigan.
Leone was born in Lily, South Dakota on September 24, 1914 the daughter of Ernest Edgar and Martha Charlotte ( Krause ) Self. She resided most of her life in the Corunna-Owosso area and graduated from Corunna High School and attended Detroit Business Institute. Leone married Malcolm J. Dickie on August 22, 1934 in Lennon, Michigan. Malcolm passed away in 1946. She then married Merrill Thorne on December 31, 1949 in Owosso. Merrill passed away December 25, 2006. Leone worked at Universal Electric for 33 years. She enjoyed music, reading, gardening, family and friends. Leone was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ, Owosso, MI where she was an active member. She was also a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ Women (U.C.C.W.), Owosso Musicale, Shiawassee Arts Council, Owosso Garden Club, and for some years a member of Shia-ABWA Charter Chapter (American Business Women's Association).
She is survived by grandsons; Mark & Jude Hockley of Minneapolis, MN, Matthew & Deb Hockley of Corvallis, OR, great grandchildren; Jacob, Jessica, Tessa, & Paige, son-in-law Leonard C. & Phyllis Hockley of Eugene, OR, sister-in-law: Betty & Rev. Leonard C. Stark of Pleasant Hills, TN, special grandchildren; Jean, David, & Susan Mark, cousins, neices & nephews, and very special friend Karen Friday. She is predeceased by her parents, one daughter M. Elaine Hockley, two granddaughters; Wendy and Stephanie, and two sisters.
Memorials may be made in lieu of flowers, to the First Congregational United Church of Christ or the Shiawassee Arts Council. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, Jennings-Lyons Chapel, Owosso, Michigan.
