Leota B. Lorenzen age 105 of St. Louis, Michigan died on Sunday, December 25, 2005 at Schnepp Healthcare Center, St. Louis, Michigan. Funeral services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Louis Chapel, on Wednesday, December 28, 2005 at 11:00 A.M. Burial will take place at Oak Grove Cemetery, St. Louis, Michigan, Mr. Keith Wise will officiate. Visitation will be on Tuesday, 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home.
Leota was born in Pine River Township, Gratiot County, Michigan on September 19, 1900, the daughter of Cephas E. & Etta A. (Smith) Wood. On October 10, 1917 she married Henry Lorenzen in Ithaca, Michigan, and Henry predeceased her on April 13, 1984. She lived her young adult life in Gratiot County, Michigan, after her marriage to Henry they moved to Lansing. Daughter Norma and Frances were born to them, then a number of years later a son Bernard was born. She & Henry owned and operated Lorenzen Grocery in Lansing, Michigan for many years, and then they returned to St. Louis, Michigan. She worked many years as a volunteer at the Gratiot Medical Center.
She and Henry organized the Senior Citizens Chapter one. She was a member of the Ladies band, where she played drums for many years. She also was a volunteer for the American Red Cross Blood drives. She enjoyed fishing, playing cards, and sharing in her flower & vegetable gardens. She was also a member of the St. Louis Church of Christ.
Survivors are 1 daughter, Norma Counseller of Lansing, Michigan, 10 grandchildren, and many great grandchildren, nieces & nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, husband, 1 daughter, Frances, 1 son Bernard, a great grandchild and 1 sister Eva.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Louis Church of Christ, St. Louis, Michigan.
