Lester Woodard

Lester "Les" Calvin Woodard, age 92, of Elsie, Michigan died Friday, July 24, 2009 at Ovid Healthcare Center.

Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Elsie Chapel on Monday, July 27, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. Pastor Larry Howland will officiate and burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery, Elsie MI. Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 26, 2009 from 2-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel.

Lester was born in Fairfield Township, Michigan on February 24, 1917, the son of Ralph Calvin and Lydia Ann (Field) Woodard. He graduated from Elsie High School with the class of 1936. He was married to Naomi Rivest and she passed away in 1950. On November 22, 1951 he married Dorine Lavilla Tabor in Midland, Michigan. Dorine predeceased him on December 28, 1995.

Les was a farmer, and he had drove truck for Aurora Refinery and had worked for M.M.P.A. in Ovid retiring in 1982. He was a cattle trader and hauled livestock for area farms. He resided most of his life in the Elsie area, in 1992 they moved to Canadian Lakes and wintered in Florida, later returning to Elsie.

He is survived by 1 daughter Carolyn and Dennis Long of Elsie, MI, 2 sons; Calvin and Sheri Woodard of Spring Lake, MI. Cayle and Kris Woodard of Milford, Indiana, 9 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, 2 sisters; Dorothy Yerrick of Atlanta, MI. Joyce and Bill Curtis of Mesa, AZ, and 1 brother Ralph ( Bud ) and Joyce Woodard of Burton, MI. He was predeceased by both of his wives, 4 sisters; Josephine, Elgin, Florence, Wilma & 2 brothers; Clayton, Walter.
