Lillian Mae "Lilly" Jorae, age 87, of St. Johns, Michigan, passed away with her family by her side Friday, September 6, 2024, at the Hospice House of Mid-Michigan, Lansing, Michigan.
Funeral Services at will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes - Osgood Chapel, St. Johns, MI, at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, with Pastor Dan Longdon officiating. Burial will take place at Mt. Rest Cemetery, St. Johns, MI. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, from 2-8 P.M. with the family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home.
Lillian was born in Crystal Falls, Michigan on October 4, 1936, the daughter of Stephen and Elizabeth Ellen (Kermeen) Hawke. She graduated from Forest Park High School, Crystal Falls, MI with the Class of 1954. On November 9, 1957, Lillian married Roger Nicholas Jorae in El Paso, TX. They were blessed with nearly fifty years of marriage prior to his death on February 26, 2007.
Lillian dedicated her life to her family and loved them dearly. She was an animal lover, especially owls. On the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg, Lilly saved a baby owl that she named Cecil. She collected many owl figurines. Lillian was an avid reader. She enjoyed serving others through volunteer work with the American Legion Post #153 Auxiliary and Meals on Wheels for many years.
She is survived by son Kenneth (Debra) Jorae of Hagerstown, MD; daughter Pamela (Mark) Johnston of Muskegon, MI; and son David Jorae of St. Johns, MI; son-in-law Kim Kidder of St. Johns, MI; three grandsons: Zachery Jorae, Steve (Kim) Kidder, and Keith Kidder; four great- grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Roger, daughter Laurie Kidder, brother Bill Hawke, sister Edie Hawke, brother-in-law Bernard (Joan) Jorae, and sister-in-law Betty (Ed) Mankey.
