Lois Maxine Burke age 90 of Corunna, Michigan died Wednesday, November 29, 2006 at Cleveland Clinic Cleveland, Ohio.
Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Corunna Chapel Corunna, MI on Monday, December 4, 2006 at 11:00 AM. Pastor Ray Strawser will officiate with burial at Pine Tree Cemetery Corunna, Michigan. Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 3, 2006 2-8 P.M. Corunna VFW Post # 4005 Ladies Auxilary Service will be held Sunday Evening at 6:30 P.M.
Lois was born in New Haven Township, Michigan on August 8, 1916 the daughter of J. C. and Lottie May ( Beamish ) Williams. She resided in the Corunna area for about 70 years and attended New Haven Center School. Lois married Robert Burke in Owosso, MI on December 5, 1969. He passed away in 2003. She retired from Universal Electric in 1975. In her youth she was very active in 4-H clubs and was the State of Michigan 4-H Bean Queen in 1930. For the past 65 years her favorite hobby has been to attend the sporting events of her son, grandsons, and then her great grandsons. Lois was a member of Easton Church of Christ and the Corunna V.F.W. for 56 years. She was elected president of the Ladies Auxilary seven times. In 1980-81 she received the Department of Michigan VFW Auxiliary All-State Presidents award.
She is survived by her daughter JoAnne & Arlen DeZess of Laingsburg, MI, 5 step-children; Larry & Sandi Burke of Owosso, MI, Sandi & Paul Michalec of Owosso, MI, Gale & Debbie Burke of Owosso, MI, Dick & Lora Burke of Owosso, MI, Jim & Kathy Burke of Owosso, MI, 18 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren, sisters; Verna Harris of Owosso, MI, Marge Jenkinson of Corunna, MI, Lottie & Emil Rumisek of Chesaning, Mi, brothers Bob & Ruth Williams of Velton, S.C., Jim & Betty Williams of Owosso, MI, and several nieces & nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, husband, son Dick Self in 1954, sister Lelah & brother Bill.
Memorials may be made to the Corunna VFW Ladies Auxillary, or Memorial Healthcare Hospice. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, Corunna Chapel.
