Loran Sanford

Loran Marion Sanford age 93 of St. Louis, Michigan died Friday, April 4, 2008 at Gratiot Medical Center, Alma, Michigan.

Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Louis Chapel St. Louis, MI on Wednesday, April 9, 2008 at 11:00 AM. Pastor Jim Bear will officiate with burial at Chapel Garden Cemetery Seville Township, Michigan. Visitation will be held on Monday, April 7, 2008 and Tuesday, April 8, 2008 from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M.

Loran was born in Freesoil, Michigan on April 21, 1914 the son of Ed and Grace ( Breusch ) Sanford. He resided in St. Louis, Michigan since 1946 and graduated from Freesoil High School with the class of 1932. Loran married Virginia Tubbs on November 5, 1935 in Detroit, Michigan. She died on October 10, 2000. He was a Union Pipfitter. He worked with Local 85 on several projects at Dow in Midland, Total Petroleum in Alma, and Saginaw Civic Center. Loran was a member of the Local 85 in Saginaw, MI, Moose Lodge, Elks Lodge in Alma, and he spent a lot of time playing shuffle board at the VFW in St. Louis, MI.

He is survived by 2 sons; Fred & Rosalie Sanford, of Alma, MI, Gene & Ursala Sanford of Bremerton, WA, daughter Rosalie Sterling of St. Louis, MI, grandchildren; Shawn & Marla Sanford, Tonya & Tony Miller, Jennifer & Jonathan Thum, great grandchildren; Tyler Miller, Marisa Thum, Kyle Sanford, Nicholas Thum, and several nieces & nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, wife, and 3 sisters Evelyn, Genevieve, and Vivian.

Memorials may be made to Moose Heart, Moose Haven, or Meals on Wheels of St. Louis, MI. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Louis Chapel.
