Louis Otto Sykora age 78 of Owosso, MI passed away Saturday, September 20, 2008 at Memorial Healthcare Center, Owosso, MI.
Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Jennings-Lyons Chapel Owosso, MI on Saturday, September 27 at 11:00 A.M, Rev. Leonard Gamber will officiate. Burial will take place at Great Lakes National Cemetery Holly, MI on Monday, September 29, 2008 at 11:00 AM. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 26, 2008 from 2-8 P.M. with the family present 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. and on Saturday, September 27, 2008 from 10-11 A.M. prior to the service at the funeral home. There will be a VFW service at 7:00 P.M. on Friday, September 26, 2008 by the Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 9455 of Owosso.
Louis was born in Ovid, Michigan on November 17, 1929, the son of Joseph R. and Marie (Baron) Sykora. Louis married Helen Wysko on October 21, 1950 in Owosso, MI. Louis resided most of his life in Shiawassee County. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9455 of Owosso. Louis was a past Post Commander, Post Trustee, 9th District Commander, District Trustee and served on the Post Honor Guard holding the distinction of State Honor Guard National Champions 1995-96. He ran the VFW Bingo, worked the Friday Night Fish Fries and Sunday Breakfasts. Louis will be remembered as a very loyal comrade. He also was a Cub Scout Master and an assistant Scout Leader. Louis was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Z.C.B.J. Lodge 225 of Bannister. Louis served in the U.S. Army as a Corporal in the Korean War with Headquarters Battery X Corps. Artillery. He worked as a machine set-up man for the Chevy Motor Plant for General Motors in Flint for 31 years and retired in 1982. Louis also was a driver for Signature Ford in Owosso for 15 Years. He enjoyed watching NASCAR races and going to antique farm tractor shows.
Louis is survived by one daughter Lynn Milsho of Spencer, IN, 2 sons; Rick and Candy Sykora of Owosso, MI, Brian Sykora of Owosso, MI, 4 grandchildren; Stephen Milsho, David Milsho, Katherine Milsho, Melissa Sykora, 1 sister Mildred Majzel, his very dear cousins Robert Spolesnick and Alice Spolesnick, and several nieces and nephews. Louis was predeceased by his parents, his wife Helen on September 16, 2008, one brother and sister-in-law Charles and Eleanor Sykora, two sisters and a brother-in-law, Clara and Jerry Kadera and Lillian Sykora, and son-in-law John Milsho.
