Lowell Conklin

Lowell Edward Conklin, Sr., age 91, of St. Johns, MI, passed away Tuesday, November 9, 2021, at Sparrow Health Systems, Lansing, MI.

Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes - Osgood Chapel, St. Johns , MI , Friday, November 12, 2021 , at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Mona Kindel officiating.  Burial will take place at Payne Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 11, 2021 from 5-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes - Osgood Chapel.

Lowell was born in Gratiot County, MI on March 21, 1930, the son of Clarence and Althea L. (Smith) Conklin.  He retired from General Motors after 32 years of service. Lowell was a hard worker- sometimes working two jobs to support his family.  He loved riding motorcycles and did so until his late 80's.  He was a private pilot for many years and enjoyed hunting and fishing.  He was a member of the Masonic Lodge.

He is survived by his longtime companion Edna Kosik of Marquette, MI; son Ed and Ellen Conklin of St. Johns, MI; son Dave Conklin of Laingsburg, MI; daughter Merry Beard of Long Lake, MI; grandchildren: Jason (Dale Rouseau) Conklin of Florida; Brianna Thomas of Lansing, MI; Jon Beard of Lansing, MI; Jeffrey Beard of Grand Rapids, MI; and Rebecca Beard of Clinton, Iowa.  He is also survived by his siblings: Shirley Craig, Duane Conklin, Ruth (Bill) Foersch, Erna White, George Conklin, and Carole (Dennis) Brauer and one brother-in-law Bernie Goodknecht.  Lowell was preceded in death by his parents and one sister Helen Goodknecht.
