Lowell John Wolfgang, age 82, of Wheeler, MI passed away Friday, October 22, 2010 at Gratiot Medical Center, Alma, MI.
Funeral Services will be held at the Merrill Wesleyan Church on Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. Pastor Glen Pettigrove will officiate. Burial will take place at Ridgelawn Cemetery, Breckenridge, MI. Visitation will be held on Monday October 25, 2010 from 4-8 PM at Smith Family Funeral Homes St. Louis Chapel. Visitation will also be held on Tuesday, October 26, 2010 from 10-11 AM. at the Church.
Lowell was born in Gratiot County, Michigan on July 24, 1928, the son of Charles and Vera (Hoard) Wolfgang. He was a graduate of Breckenridge High School and resided most of his life in Wheeler. Lowell married Beulah Cole in June of 1950 a union of 53 years. She passed away August 28, 2003.
Lowell was an avid Tiger fan, loved baseball, gospel & barber shop music. His grandchildren were a very important part of his life also visiting with friends brought him much joy. He was a member of Merrill Wesleyan Church Merrill, MI.
Lowell is survived by his son Douglas Wolfgang of Wheeler, MI, daughter Rhonda and Rex Smith of Wheeler, MI, son Roger Wolfgang of Ypsilanti, MI, daughter Janice and Lynn Poindexter of Wheeler, MI, son Jon and Bonnie Wolfgang of Wheeler, MI, son Brian and Rosie Wolfgang of Shepherd, MI, grandchildren; Lyndsey & Matt Johnson, Jacob & Brooke Poindexter, Jessica & Rick Proctor, Joseph & Bethany Wolfgang, Sibylle Mayo, Aaron & Brandy Wolfgang, Joel & Sherri Wolfgang, Jacob & Sarah Wolfgang, Justin Wolfgang, Lisette Smith, Bethany Wolfgang, Adrian Wolfgang and Charleigh Poindexter, 9 great-grandchildren, 3 sisters; Lorraine and Max Coleman of Wheeler, MI, Nancy and Dewey Mallory of Wheeler, MI, and Sue and Richard Roberts of Breckenridge, MI, brother Charles, Jr and Monica Wolfgang of Wheeler, MI, brother-in-law Foster Cole, 4 sisters-in-law; Virginia Vojtas, Carola and Elmer Brown, Eldine Cole, and Arlene Cole. He is also survived by several nieces & nephews. Lowell was preceded in death by his parents, wife, grandson Julian Wolfgang, sister Nina Shaw, 4 brothers-in-law Kenneth Cole, Basil Cole, Ernie Ross and Ralph Briedinger, and 2 sisters-in-law Dorene Rodgers and Lee Ross.
