Lucille May (Serr) (Rathbun) Zdunic, age 90, of Owosso, MI passed away Saturday, August 27, 2011 at Durand Senior Care & Rehab Center, Durand, MI.
Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Jennings-Lyons Chapel Owosso, MI on Friday, September 2, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. Burial will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery, Owosso, MI. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 1, 2011 from 3-5 & 6-8 P.M. and Friday prior to the service from 12-2 P.M. at the Funeral Home.
Lucille was born in Corunna, Michigan on December 27, 1920, the daughter of James Alfred and Nina May (Phyllaeire) Serr. Lucille resided all of her life in the Owosso and Corunna areas.
Lucille married Leon J. "Red" Rathbun on November 28, 1938 in Corunna. Leon passed away May 16, 1972. She then married Andrew J. "Jake" Zdunic on November 25, 1975 in Owosso. Andrew passed away on December 17, 1994.
Lucille was employed by Motor Products (Redmond's) in Owosso for 54 years, viewing her fellow employees as her second family and serving as a union steward with enormous respect for the partnership between management and labor. She also worked for Universal Electric in Owosso. She loved to fish, sew, hook rugs, quilt and was a talented seamstress. Lucille was a self-taught piano and organ player. Cooking and hosting big family gatherings here and at their vacation home in Beaverton brought her much joy. Having become a caretaker for her brothers and father at an early age, she will be remembered as always willing to help anyone especially her family. Lucille was active in previous years with Owosso First Church of God.
She is survived by her son Joseph R. and Candalee (Wagner) Rathbun of Owosso, MI, 5 grandchildren; Jill R. and Mark Horton of Corunna, MI, Jack A. and Mary Rathbun of Durand, MI, Jennifer L. Rathbun of Corunna, MI, Jodi L. Rathbun & Michael Schlabach of Aloha, OR, Carrie A. Rathbun Hawks & Clint Hawks of Laingsburg, MI, 7 great-grandchildren; Brandi Jo (Horton) Wenzlick, Britni L. Horton, Shelby (Rathbun) Perrin, Triston Rogers, Stevie L. Felker, Brady C. Hawks and Mary L. Schlabach, and great-great-grandson Jacob Wenzlick. Lucille was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, son & daughter-in-law Jerry L. and Wanda A. (Louch) Rathbun, stillborn twin daughters, 3 brothers; Claude A. Serr, Cecil (Johnny) Serr and George Serr.
