Luella Julia "Wanita" Palmer age 87 of Ashley, Michigan died Monday, November 15, 2004 at Carson City Hospital, Carson City, Michigan.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, November 18, 2004 at 11:00 A.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel. Pastor Wade Hall will officiate with burial at Eureka Cemetery, Eureka, Michigan. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 17 from 3-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel.
Luella was born in Gratiot County, Michigan on April 13, 1917 the daughter of Alvin & Cora ( Emery ) Kirby. She lived her entire life in the Bannister & Ashley area, and has been a resident of Ashley Care Center for 3 years. Luella married Maurice Garlock in June 1942. He died in September 1950. She then married Norman Palmer in February 1955. He preceded her in March 1992. She was an accomplished seamstress, and also provided day care for many years. Luella attended St. Louis Wesleyan Holiness Church, and the Ashley Wesleyan Church.
She is survived by her son Floyd & Judy Palmer of Ashley, MI, 2 daughters; Barbara Decker of Grandville, MI, Bonnie & John Dana of Midland, MI, 8 grandchildren; Lavern & Jenny Decker of Byron Center, MI, Steven & Amy Decker of Middleville, MI, Dora & Bob Hahn of Hudsonville, MI, Bryan & Traci Decker of Lansing, MI, John M. & Denise Dana of Sanford, MI, Jason Dana & Nadene Heckmann of Midland, MI, Norman Palmer of Ashley, MI, Connie Palmer of Ashley, MI, 6 great grandchildren; Derek Decker, Robert Hahn, Joseph Decker, Jason Michalak, John C. Dana, Alexandria Dana, special niece Lila & Irving Mills, special nephew John & Betty Kirby, and many other nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents Alvin & Cora Kirby, her husbands, Maurice Garlock & Norman Palmer, 2 brothers; Bernie & Merlin, 3 sisters; Daisy Kirby, Wilma Young, and Flora Sturk, and her son-in-law, Zahel Decker.The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel.
