Lula Josephine Prahin age 81 of Breckenridge, Michigan died Wednesday, August 4, 2004 at Cartwright Hospice Center Saginaw, Michigan.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, August 7, 2004 at 2:30 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Louis Chapel. Mr. Keith Wise will officiate with internment at Ridgelawn Cemetery, Breckenridge, MI. Visitation will be held on Friday, August 6, 2004 from 4-8 P.M.
Lula was born in Magoffin County Kentucky on September 17, 1922 the daughter of William & Essie ( Hall ) Posey. She graduated from Breckenridge High School with the class of 1940. She married Martin G. Prahin Jr. on August 2, 1941 in Breckenridge, Michigan, a union of 58 years. He died on May 30, 2000. Lula enjoyed her church and was very active in several of the womena�(TM)s groups. She had a lovely voice and sang in the choir. She also taught Sunday School. She was an avid reader. She loved spending time with her family and friends and was a gracious hostess. Together Lula and Martin owned and operated a dairy farm in rural Breckenridge. Throughout their married life they enjoyed traveling the USA and Canada together. She was a life long resident of Breckenridge, MI.
Lula participated in several organizations including the Chippewa Nature Center in Midland, Gratiot County Chapter of MADD, Red Hat Society Chapter, "Red Hot Attitudes" of St. Johns, Crystal Herb Society in Crystal and the Senior Activity Poetry Group in Ithaca.
Those left to cherish her memory are daughter & friend Linda and her dear son-in-law Rick Smith of Breckenridge, MI, loving granddaughter Amy Jo & Steve Chapin of Breckenridge, MI
4 great grandchildren Ricky, Chelsy Jo, Emily, & Trey Martin Chapin of Breckenridge, MI 6 sisters & 1 brother Virginia & Rolly Stowits of Midland, MI, Ruby & Arland Carter of Crystal, MI, Martha & Bill Post of Breckenridge, MI, Mary & Bill Horvat of Sanford, MI, William Monroe Posey Jr. of Breckenridge, MI, Nancy & Bill Phillips of Breckenridge, MI, Suzanne & Larry Huntoon of Breckenridge, MI, also many caring nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by parents, husband, precious grandson Marty Smith on November 25, 1997 and sister Helen Wells.
Memorials may be made to First Congregational Church in Breckenridge, Howe Memorial Library in Breckenridge or MADD of Gratiot County. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Louis Chapel.
