Lyle "Rex" Cross, age 77, of Wheeler, MI was called home to be with the Lord Tuesday, December 1, 2015 after an accident at his home.
Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes St. Louis, MI on Friday, December 4, 2015 at 11:00 A.M., with Rev. Nathan Schockley officiating. Burial will follow at Wheeler Township Cemetery, Wheeler, MI. Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 3, 2015 from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home.
Rex was born in Wheeler, Michigan on January 14, 1938, the son of Lyle and Marie (Mayle) Cross where he had been a lifelong resident. Rex began his career by starting Rex's Auto Beauty Shop in 1957. Over the years he built his business into a heavy truck repair shop called Rex's; he also started a wrecker service. Rex took pride in his custom building of wreckers and going on recovery calls. Rex was an active community member. He helped establish the Breckenridge-Wheeler Fire Rescue, worked as a Paramedic, served as a member on the Wheeler Township Board, and was a faithful member of the St. Louis Holiness Church. Rex enjoyed fishing, gardening, restoring his '57 Chevy and family time.
He is survived by his loving wife Barbara, married 59 years. They were married in Breckenridge on March 17, 1956. He is also survived by 2 sons; Craig and Kimberly Cross of Wheeler, and Bryan and Lori Cross of Wheeler, 5 grandchildren; Alisha (Roger) Strait, Jillyan (Neil) Rose, Drew Cross, Emily Cross, Alivia Cross and 7 great-grandchildren. Rex was preceded in death by his parents and his grandson Justin Cross.
