Madeline Theresa Baxter, age 72, of St. Louis, MI passed away on Sunday, April 25, 2010 at Gratiot Medical Center, Alma, MI after a long, courageous battle with cancer.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alma, MI on Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at 10:00 A.M. Rev. Fr. Kevin Maksym will officiate. Burial will take place at Oak Grove Cemetery in St. Louis, MI. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 27, 2010 from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Louis Chapel.

Madeline was born in Wayne City, Michigan on September 28, 1937, the daughter of Mark and Marie (Johnson) Grattidge. She was a graduate of Midland High School class of 1957. She married the love of her life, James Edward Baxter on November 21, 1959 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in St. Louis. Jim passed away on February 12, 2002. Madeline was a lifelong resident of St. Louis. Her family and friends were very important to her. Madeline was a homemaker. She loved gardening, and always looked forward to the "get together club". Madeline was also the Bethany Twp. Treasurer for many years. She and Jim had a passion for dancing, and loved to go with their family and friends. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alma, MI.

She is survived by her son Mark Baxter of Washington, 2 daughters; Terri and Dave Rhoades of St. Louis, MI, Tina and Scot Wallace of Germfask, MI, 3 grandsons; Jason Rhoades of St. Louis, MI, Ryan Rhoades of St. Louis, MI, Nathan Baxter of Washington, in laws; Ted Baxter of Charlotte, MI, William and Karel Baxter of Alma, MI, Gary and Jan Baxter of St. Louis, MI, Chuck and Bev Baxter of St. Louis, MI, Dave and Pam Baxter of Chattanooga, TN, Laura and David Stensrud of Florida, Ginny and Jerry Plaxton of Lansing, MI. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband Jim.
