Maitland Sitts

Maitland Kay "Fussy" (Cole) Sitts, 82, of Alma, MI, passed away after a brief battle with cancer Saturday, April 17, 2021, in Carson City, MI.

Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Louis, MI, on Thursday, April 22, 2021 at 1:00 P.M., with Mr. Benjamin Evers officiating.  Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Alma.  Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 21, 2021 from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home. "Fussy" was born in Middleton, MI on October 2, 1938, the daughter of Carl and Erma (Johnson) Cole. She attended Fulton Public Schools and graduated from Alma High School.

On September 18, 1982, Fussy married Harry William Sitts at the St. Johns Episcopal Church, Alma. They enjoyed 37 years of marriage before his death on January 14, 2020.

Fussy retired from Brinks Machinery.  Fussy always had a smile for everyone. She enjoyed time with her friends at the Shrinkers Club, Red Hat Society, Water Aerobics, Gratiot Commission on Aging trips, and the Gratiot County Players. She was a crafter her entire life. Fussy was a dedicated Elvis fan! She was "Mom" to many extra children. Most of all, Fussy loved her family and cherished her time with them.

Fussy is survived by her 5 children: Marcia (Craig) Wright of Allegan, Steve (Rose) Lowery of Riverdale, Bruce Lowery of Sumner, Brenda Pung of Mt. Pleasant, and Kelly (Karen) Lowery of Ithaca. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren: Justin Bupp, Brett (Ruth) Wright, Trevor (Marissa) Wright, Jim (Danielle) Williams, Ben (Lisa) Williams, Paige Lowery, Taylor (Trent) North, Chad (Stephanie) Pung, Danielle (Josh Cecil) Pung, Mitch (Hannah) Lowery, and Tara Lowery; 19 great grandchildren; brother Maynard (Shirley) Cole, 2 sisters-in-law: Janice Cole, and Shirley Sitts, and many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Harry Sitts, son-in-law Joe Pung, and siblings: infant sister Marlene Cole, Max (Mary) Cole, Marcella (Lawrence) Childers, Marvin "Mike" Cole and Marva "Teasie" (Minor Dewey) Vining; Harry's siblings: Bernice Sitts, Cecil Sitts, Fern Cochran, Alton Sitts, Eileen Lange, Ray Sitts, Norma Northrup, and Earl "LeRoy" Sitts.
