Margaret L. "Peg" Boyd, age 84, of St. Louis, MI died Friday, August 3, 2012 surrounded by her family.
Funeral Services will be held at St. Louis Church of Christ, St. Louis, MI on Saturday, August 11, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. with Mr. Keith Wise officiating. Burial will take place at Union Home Cemetery, Clinton County, MI. Visitation will be held on Friday, August 10, 2012 from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Louis Chapel, St. Louis, MI.
Margaret was born in Lansing, Michigan on April 30, 1928, the daughter of Guy A. and Frances C. (Barrett) Reeve. She graduated from Bath High School and St. Lawrence Mercy School of Nursing in Lansing, MI. Margaret worked as a registered nurse for 28 years at the Gratiot Community Hospital in Alma, MI where she established the first hospital-based home care service. She was proud to serve in the nursing profession. She loved and was loved by so many of her patients and co-workers.
Peg served two terms on the St. Louis City Council and served on the Theodore Austin Cutler Memorial Library Board of Trustees and the St. Louis Area Historical Society. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit #256. Peg and her family have many wonderful memories of their annual vacations at the American Legion cottage on Higgins Lake. She was a member of St. Louis Church of Christ.
Peg married Donald E. Boyd on March 4, 1950 and he preceded her in death on February 15, 2011 after 60 years of marriage.
She is survived by 3 sons; Kurt Boyd of Ann Arbor, MI, Stephen and Lichiu Boyd of East Lansing, MI, and James and Kathryn Boyd of Whitewater, WI, 1 daughter Mary Jane and Robert Barker of North Muskegon, MI, 10 grandchildren; Andrew (Renee) Boyd, Mara Boyd, Evan Boyd, Guy Boyd, Franklin Boyd, Katey (Jason Chang) Boyd, Garth Boyd, Emma Boyd, Drew (Rachel) Barker and Glen Barker. In addition to her parents and her husband, Peg was preceded in death by 2 brothers; Thomas and Robert Reeve and 3 sisters; Jeanne Edwards, Dorothy Wood and Martha Grier.
