Margarette Halsted

Margarette Bernice Halsted age 84 of St. Johns, Michigan died Wednesday, January 30, 2008 at Clinton Memorial Hospital, St. Johns, MI.

Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Johns Chapel St. Johns, MI on Saturday, February 2, 2008 at 11:00 AM. Pastor Jon Pohl will officiate with burial at South Bingham Township Cemetery St. Johns, Michigan. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 31, 2008 from 6-8 P.M. and Friday, February 1, 2008 from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M.

Margarette was born in St. Johns, Michigan on November 4, 1923 the daughter of Arthur and Helen ( Hunt ) Salters. She resided most of her life in Lansing before moving to St. Johns in 1987. She attended St. Johns Schools. Margarette married Frank D. Halsted on April 23, 1949 in Maple Rapids, Michigan. She worked for Oldsmobile during the war and then worked for Seal Powers in St. Johns after that. Margarette loved to play cards, dance, and make flower arrangements. She enjoyed spending time with her kids and going camping with her family, and she liked going shopping. Margarette was a member of Greenbush Methodist Church and she volunteered for Meals on Wheels with her husband Frank.

She is survived by her husband Frank D. Halsted of St. Johns, MI, children; Margaret Jean & Jim Wicker of Midland, MI, Joseph Dan & Sue Halsted of Charlotte, MI, Connie & Mike Rogers of Dimondale, MI, grandchildren; Carla & Dave Eno, Kelly & Shaun Larabee, David Rogers, Kory Halsted, Kacie Halsted, 5 great grandchildren, 2 sisters; Lena & Art Hertzberger, Betty Blemaster, 3 brothers; Donald & Kate Salters, Clare Salters, Leon & Linda Salters, and several nieces & nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, and 3 brothers; Stewart, Lawrence, & Robert.

Memorials may be made to American Heart Association. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Johns Chapel.
